interKULTUR is a collaborative European-Chinese project set out to develop an international higher education curriculum focusing on inter-cultural content, inventive didactic practice, and the application of new media in developing teaching material and course delivery. interKULTUR is led and coordinated by the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. It will be executed jointly by the University of Nanjing, Bejing Foreign Studies University, Anhui University, and The University of Edinburgh, within a period of three years, 2006-2008.
The aim of the project is twofold:
1/ the conception and establishment of an innovative graduate study programme in Intercultural German Studies.
2/ the development of a series of flexible modular intercultural courses in Cultural Studies.
The first goal will be realized through the establishment of a MA double degree in Intercultural German Studies, an interdisciplinary study programme which will adopt an intercultural and Cultural Studies perspective throughout its curriculum. In 2008 the programme will be implemented at three participating universities, Göttingen, Nanjing, and Beijing, with each site emphasizing different aspects of the programme (such as cultural transfer/ culture and communication (Göttingen), interpreting in the areas of law and economy (Beijing), as well as transfer of knowledge and translation in the area of economy (Nanjing). The target groups of this programme will be graduate students majoring in Language/Area Studies or Cultural Studies, especially students from the People's Republic of China, Germany and Great Britain. They will be trained as cross-cultural intermediaries who on the basis of their interdisciplinary expertise, language skills and intercultural competence will be qualified to work in internationally-operating cultural, academic, educational and political institutions, as well as in industry, commerce and the business world of the European-Asian employment market.
The second aim of the interKULTUR project will be met through collaboratively developed flexible modules which will be implemented in the MA double degree in Intercultural German Studies and will become integrated into existing study programmes at the participating English language-based sites (Cultural Studies at Edinburgh, English Literature at Nanjing, and English Studies in Beijing). Through collaboration in bringing an intercultural perspective into these modules, the project will engender critical reflection on the study material and its cultural contexts. |
